How to choose the best trading app

  • Regulation first: the app is only as safe as the broker behind it. Check FSCA authorisation.
  • Costs: spreads, commission and swap; platforms are free.
  • Markets: forex only, or also gold, indices, shares and crypto?
  • Tools: charts, alerts, one-click trading, risk tools.
  • Mobile vs desktop: serious analysis is easier on a computer.

MT4 and MT5 download and login

Download MetaTrader only from your broker's website or the official app stores. To log in you need three things from your broker: the account (login) number, the password and the server name (for example "BrokerName-Live3"). Most login problems come from choosing the wrong server. Never share your password with "account managers" who offer to trade for you.

Expert Advisors and forex robots

MT4/MT5 let you run automated strategies (EAs). Be very cautious about bought robots that promise high returns: back-test them yourself, run them on demo, and remember that past performance does not guarantee future results.

There is no single best app. MT5 and TradingView are the most popular for analysis; choose an FSCA-regulated broker whose app suits your style.

MT5 is newer and more powerful; MT4 remains popular because of its large library of indicators and EAs. Beginners can start with either.
